Soberanes Fire Smoke Impact Forecast #62
Issued: Wednesday September 28, 2016 0800
Posted by: Jen Croft- ARA & Sean Luchs ARA (t)

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Soberanes Fire wildfire and other fires.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants and other sources are generally not reflected.

Fire: Current fire acres are 128,496, an increase in 916 acres. Current containment is 89%. The most active part of the fire was again occurred in unburned portions of the fire interior, mostly around Church Creek. Strategy for the fire continues to favor direct attack with limited to no firing operations planned.

Air Quality Today: Loma Fire smoke has made minor contributions in the north and along the coast recently, but that should diminish as winds have become more out of the south. This wind shift should provide limited relief to sites like Tassajara and Arroyo Seco, but also mean more impact for communities in the Salinas Valley. We may see winds go to northwesterly again in the evening, spreading the impact around the area more moderately.

Air Quality Tomorrow:  More southwest winds are expected as a front approaches, which will continue similar impacts again on Thursday for most. The exception will be in the north and along the coast, where air quality will improve as small contributions of smoke from the Loma fire will diminish.
