Soberanes Fire Smoke Impact Forecast #63
Issued: Thursday September 29, 2016 0800
Posted by: Jen Croft- ARA & Sean Luchs ARA (t)

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Soberanes Fire wildfire and other fires.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants and other sources are generally not reflected.

Fire: Current fire acres are 129,395, an increase in 899 acres. Current containment is 92%. The additional acres came from interior burning with. Smoke production was lighter than in past days – additionally, fire activity was not sufficient enough to produce satellite fire detections. Direct attack will continue to be used, with no firing operations planned.

Air Quality Today: Increased marine layer stability may hold any near surface smoke low early. Similar early conditions to yesterday should result in similar AQ results, with the magnitude of impact significantly reliant on the amount of smoke today’s burning produces. Winds becoming northwesterly in the afternoon will bring a more noticeable impact for communities like Tassajara southeast of the most active areas.

Air Quality Tomorrow:  A frontal passage will again shift southwest winds early in the day to northwesterly. If it passes early enough, this shift will likely again more strongly influence communities such as Tassajara (with actual magnitude again depending on the day’s smoke production), but also communities like Pacific Grove to Big Sur, which could see the return of influence from Loma smoke.

Use the Air Quality Index to plan your activities
The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a measure used for reporting daily air quality. It tells you how clean or polluted your air is for the day, and what associated health effects might be a concern.
