Soberanes Fire Smoke Impact Forecast #64
Issued: Friday September 30, 2016 0800
Posted by: Jen Croft- ARA & Sean Luchs ARA (t)

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Soberanes Fire wildfire and other fires.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants and other sources are generally not reflected.

Fire: Current fire acreage is 132069, an increase in 2,674 acres -mainly due to better mapping of the fire. Current containment is 92%. Direct attack will continue to be used, with no firing operations planned.

Air Quality Today: Southwest winds early will bring minor morning impacts to communities in the Carmel Valley and parts of the Salinas Valley. Some relief looks to come in the afternoon, though visible impacts should be expected. A cold front late this afternoon will bring gusty northwesterly winds. Minor impacts are expected in the communities of Tassajara, Arroyo Seco, and Greenfield as evening conditions begin pooling smoke in the valleys.  The Loma Fire may contribute to visible smoke and result in minor impacts, mainly later tonight.

Air Quality Tomorrow:  Gusty northwest winds will continue, but bring cooler temperatures and better moisture to help mitigate smoke impacts. These conditions will reduce the smoldering of interior fire activity that will assist in limiting the smoke impacts to the greater Soberanes fire area.
