Sunday August 28th, 2016 - #Cedarfire Smoke Report

Cedar Fire Smoke Report
Issued:  8/28/2016
Prepared by:  Josh Hall and Wendy Wagner

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Cedar Fire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants and impacts from other fires are not reflected.
Fire:  The Fire has grown to 29,040 acres during the past 24 hours and is now 30% contained. Fire growth was minimal yesterday.  The majority of fire activity remains along the Western and Eastern perimeters.  Firefighters are continuing defensive firing along the West side containment lines where increased smoke is expected.  A new start occurred just south of the Cedar Fire yesterday afternoon (the Havilah Fire) and has burned approximately 250 acres in light fuels.
Air Quality Today:  Smoke continues to drain into low-lying areas below active fire including Glennville and Posey. Smoke is expected to lift by late morning in those communities.  In the Kern Valley, North of Kernville, localized unhealthy conditions will remain where smoke is transported during the day.  In the Owens Valley and Ridgecrest areas conditions are expected to improve due to a decrease in forecasted smoke production.
Air Quality Tomorrow:  Similar impacts as today.
