Saturday, September 19, 2015 Rough Fire Smoke Report and Forecast

Air Quality Report                                                                                               Issue Date: 09/19/2015

Rough Fire                                                                               Prepared by:  Tod Johnson and Jen Croft
Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Rough Fire wildfire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Fire:  Interior fire activity and more accurate mapping added an additional 455 acres bringing the current fire area  total to 141,491acres.  As fuels dry out, additional burning operations along the western perimeter will likely continue until the edge is secure.  Fire perimeter containment is listed at 68%.
Air Quality Today:  Increased fire activity and perimeter burn out operations will disperse light to moderate smoke into areas directly South and South West of the fire as the N—NE winds move into the area.  Hume Lake, Grant Grove, Cedar Grove, Ash Mountain and Three Rivers are the areas of highest impact. The foothill communities west of Kings Canyon will experience light to moderate smoke impacts as smoke moves West through the evening into Sunday morning. Stable air conditions will limit relief from night time settling and pooling.
Air Quality Tomorrow:  Smoke will linger through the morning hours beneath the forecast inversion. Ground impacts to lessen following inversion break and as a result day time heating. Impacts continue to be light to moderate in the foothills west of the fire. Heavier impacts to persist for the areas proximal to King’s Canyon. Limited impacts to the Owens Valley.
