Thursday, 17 September 2015 Rough Fire Smoke Report and Forecast

Air Quality Report                                                                                               Issue Date: 09/17/2015

Rough Fire                                                                               Prepared by:  Tod Johnson and Jen Croft
Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Rough Fire wildfire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Fire:  Additional efforts to secure the perimeter with burnout operations along the western boundary have been made, and will continue as the drying trend improves the opportunities and burning conditions.  Current perimeter is 141,036 acres, 276 new acres resulting from the above efforts.  The Rough fire is 67% contained.
Air Quality Today:  Increased fire activity will disperse light to moderate smoke into areas directly South and South East of the fire as the N—NW winds move into the area.  Grant Grove, Cedar Grove, Three Rivers, and the Owens Valley are the areas of highest impact today.  As stable air starts to return to the area, these areas can expect limited relief from night time settling.
Air Quality Tomorrow:  N-NE winds will begin to shift the smoke down the crest, drifting into the upper foothills, with some settling into the lower valley.  Impacts are expected to be light to moderate.
