Air Quality Report Issue
Date: 08/31/2016
Soberanes Fire Prepared by: Randy Striplin and Robert Elleman
Forecast-34
Forecast conditions represent impacts
from smoke from the Soberanes Fire wildfire.
Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
|
||||
Fire: Moderate to active smoke production yesterday
as winds from the northwest caused elevated fire activity mainly in the
southeastern area of the fire. Today conditions will be similar. Burnout
operations are likely on the southern containment line. Current perimeter is 93,714
acres, with 469 new acres. Current containment is reported at 60%.
Air Quality
Today: Good
transport winds from the north today should help to clear out smoke for most
areas. Smoke drainage down the Big Sur River Valley into Big Sur this morning
should be minimal. The winds will be lighter today than yesterday with less
dissipation of smoke in Tassajara area, so the current pattern favors
degraded air quality in that portion of the fire area.
Air Quality Tomorrow: Winds will weaken and shift to being
from the west tomorrow. The winds from the west tomorrow should transport
smoke into the Tassajara area. Big Sur can expect the recurring pattern of
smoky mornings and clear afternoons. Air quality in Cachagua should be good
with fire to the south and winds pushing smoke to the east.

Disclaimer: Conditions
may change quickly, these projections are based on anticipated weather
and fire activity. Sensitive groups
including individuals with Asthma, lung or heart disease, children, older
adults, and pregnant women should take precautions to avoid exposure to smoke.
If you feel as though you are having health effects from smoke see your
doctor or health professional as needed. In some cases your eyes are your best
tools, if it is smoky outside you are being impacted. Use caution when
driving in or around smoky areas.
