Friday, August 12, 2016 - #MineralFire, #PilotFire, and #HorseshoeFire Smoke Report

  •  Overall, smoke outputs are diminishing from the Pilot, Mineral, and Horseshoe Fires. Some smoke may pool into the valley areas overnight in areas adjacent to fires. No visible columns of smoke present on yesterday’s Modis satellite imagery.
  • Bluesky is likely over predicting the smoke impacts today from the Pilot, Horseshoe, and Mineral Fires.  This error is likely due over estimates of today’s fire activity from the three fires.
  • Pilot Fire (San Bernardino County) – 8,115 acres with 80 containment reported this morning.  Acreage growth was 216 compared to yesterday’s figures. Smoke impacts should be similar or lessened compared to yesterday in Hesperia, Apple Valley, and Victorville.  Firing operations and an interior flare-up produced smoke yesterday.
  • Mineral Fire (western Fresno County) – Active fire behavior forecast for the next 24 hours, 7,050 acres with 35% containment reported this morning. Acreage growth was 98 compared to yesterday’s figures.  Some smoke may be present in the Coalinga area.  No planned firing operations today.
  • Horseshoe Fire (southwestern Inyo County) – Fire activity diminishing, 362 acres with 50% containment this morning. The acreage of the fire has been revised downwards due to more accurate mapping. Smoke is only expected to be in the immediate fire vicinity.
Current Fire information can be found at Inciweb and CALFIRE's information page.
