Thursday, July 28, 2016 - From the NWS - San Francisco/Monterey #SoberanesFire

Soberanes Fire in Monterey County is at 10% containment and has burned an estimated 27,326 acres as of Thursday morning 28 July 2016. Area residents are encouraged to find more information from www.ca.fire.gov or from local officials. The smoke plume is impacting much of Monterey County with the hardest hit areas immediately adjacent to the fire. Light winds are making for diffuse smoke plume today, but the general direction is to the southeast. This is expected to change over the next couple days as mid level winds are forecast to become southerly, causing the smoke to begin a north to north-northeast drift once again. Sensitive groups should take precautions to avoid smokey areas or are encouraged to remain indoors with windows and doors closed.
