Friday September 2, 2016 - #Soberanesfire Smoke Report

Air Quality Report                                                                                               Issue Date: 09/02/2016
Soberanes Fire                                                            Prepared by:  Randy Striplin and Robert Elleman

Forecast-36
Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Soberanes Fire wildfire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.

Fire:  Moderate smoke production today as light winds from the north-northwest cause fire activity in the southeastern area of the fire. Burnout operations on the order of a hundred acres are likely on the southern containment line along Coast Ridge Road. Current perimeter is 94,180 acres, with 464 new acres. Current containment is reported at 60%.
Air Quality Today: With the upper level trough to the east of the fire, transports winds will continue to weaken and will become more westerly today. Smoke drainage down the Big Sur River Valley into Big Sur this morning will be light. Light and westerly low-level transport winds increase the odds of smoke at Tassajara.
Air Quality Tomorrow:  Transport winds will strengthen and return to being from the northwest. This is likely to help with air quality at Tassajara and also minimize nighttime drainage into Big Sur.
