Thursday, August 25, 2016 #Cedarfire Smoke Report

Cedar Fire Smoke Report
Issued 8/25/2016
Prepared by:  Josh Hall and Wendy Wagner

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Cedar Fire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants and impacts from other fires are not reflected.
Fire:  Fire was more active yesterday afternoon, with growth primarily along the northern perimeter and continued heat in the interior as heavier fuels are consumed.  The fire grew to 26,135 acres and is 15% contained.  Fire activity is expected to be similar as yesterday.  Firefighters are continuing defensive firing along containment lines in order minimize the fire growth.
Air Quality Today: Smoke is expected to drain downslope into Glennville and other areas below active fire overnight and lifting mid-morning.  Localized unhealthy conditions are again expected in the Kern Valley north of Kernville this afternoon.  Smoke is expected to be transported towards the east with USG impacts expected in Ridgecrest, and extending into Owens Valley late this afternoon and early evening.
Air Quality Tomorrow: Similar impacts as today, with potential for added impacts to the San Joaquin Valley from smoke from the coastal fires.
