Smoke Synopsis:

Yesterday: The Air Quality (AQ) continued to be impaired due to late burnout operations and fire growth. Fire growth was estimated at 5,614 acres. At days end Big Sur was the most severely impacted area. Carmel Valley continued to have impacts that made AQ unhealthy. The Salinas Valley communities continued to have impacted AQ but experienced improvement especially in Gonzales & Soledad.
Today: Smoke impact is anticipated to be good for Carmel and northern communities. Early morning smoke is being experienced by some, particularly Carmel Valley. Air quality is expected to improve throughout the day. Most of the burnout operation on the eastside of the fire (Los Padres Dam area) has been completed.  This has been factored into the AQ Table. Big Sur is expected to be unhealthy all day.  Carmel Valley is expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups. Greenfield and King City will continue to have diminished AQ and are expected to clear in the afternoon.  Lockwood area AQ will be variable throughout the day but is expected to remain at a moderate level. Smoke impacts will be minimal to the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra foothills. The northern San Luis Obispo County, especially coastal areas, are being affected by smoke.
Tomorrow: With similar weather conditions forecasted, slowed fire growth and completed burn out operations, smoke production is expected to decline and AQ improve. Big Sur will not experience this improvement due to continued fire activity.
