Sunday, August 16, 2015 - Rough Fire Air Quality Report

Air Quality Report                                                                                               Issue Date: 08/16/2015

Rough Fire – Sierra National Forest                                  Prepared by: Rick Graw and Ariane Sarzotti

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Rough Fire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Fire:  The Rough Fire grew 2200 acres yesterday, increasing the perimeter to 16,390 acres.  On the eastern side, the fire crossed Juniper Ridge and started making its way down toward the south fork of the Kings River, where air attack operations were working.   On the western side, the fire moved into the Rough Creek drainage and ran up toward the ridge, moving into heavier fuels.
Air Quality Today:   Relatively higher levels of smoke will occur throughout the Kings River Canyon this morning as the increase in burning yesterday led to greater accumulation of smoke held under the inversion this morning. Smoke will only partially move out of the canyon today, lifting and drifting to the east, and then settling again overnight.
Air Quality Tomorrow:  A similar pattern to today is expected.
