Cabin Fire – Sequoia National Forest Prepared by: Ariane Sarzotti
Forecast conditions represent impacts
from smoke. Contributions from ozone
and other pollutants are not reflected.
|
|||||
Fire Information: The Cabin Fire on the Sequoia National
Forest saw some increased activity southeast of Peck’s Cabin near Griswold
Meadow due to higher temperatures and lower humidity. The fire continues to
burn to the north in pockets of fuel within the 2011 Lion Fire scar. Fire behavior may continue to increase with
upcoming higher temperatures and lower humidity Sunday and Monday. Current size of the fire is 6,672 acres.
Smoke
Information: Smoke production may be higher due to higher temperatures
and lower humidity. Smoke will continue to be produced from interior fuels
being consumed as well as fire growth to the northeast. Areas within the fire perimeter will
continue to smolder until winter rainfall extinguishes the fire completely. Due to potential higher fire behavior, a
little more smoke may be seen in the Upper Kern Canyon and into the Owens
Valley in the evening and early mornings.
Similar weather Sunday should result in smoke generally traveling east
and again settling in the Upper Kern Canyon and the Owens Valley. Impacts to
the San Joaquin Valley and Foothills from this fire should be minimal. |

Colors displayed above correspond
roughly with the AQI chart below.
Conditions may change quickly, these
projections are based on anticipated weather and fire activity. Sensitive groups including individuals with
Asthma, lung or heart disease, children, older adults, and pregnant women
should take precautions to avoid exposure to smoke. If you feel as though you
are having health effects from smoke see your doctor or health professional
as needed. In
some cases your eyes are your best tools, if it is smoky outside you are
being impacted. Use caution when driving in or around smoky areas.
