Tuesday, October 10, 2017: Statewide Smoke Outlook

Strong NE winds drove substantial fire activity across the Central/Northern part of California yesterday morning, and the smoke from that is now widespread throughout California. Here's the image from yesterday (Monday, 10/9) afternoon showing the smoke from these fires pushing out over the sea:

By this afternoon, those winds have subsided and the smoke has reversed direction under lighter SW winds.


Those SW winds will likely continue the rest of today, but then give way to NW winds by tomorrow afternoon. Here is a sequence of images from the experimental BlueSky model, which shows the overall pattern of smoke likely to occur as the winds shift again and push the smoke south by noon tomorrow.
