Friday September 9, 2016 #Soberanes Fire AQR Forecast #43

Air Quality Report                                                          Issue Date: 09/09/2016
Soberanes Fire                                                                Time: 0700
Forecast- 43                                                                     Prepared by:  Gary Curcio

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Soberanes Fire wildfire and other fires.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Fire:  Yesterday light smoke from other distant fires drifted into our area. Periodically air quality was affected. Soberanes continues to moderately produce smoke specifically along the southeastern head of the fire. Burnout operations were not conducted. However, several drainages continued to burn and spread slowly. Weather conditions did not support large fire runs. Re-engagement of the burnout operation will be evaluated. Current fire size is 103,242 acres with 743 acres of new growth. Containment remains at 60%.

Air Quality Today: The air mass remains stable. Winds continue to be light and terrain driven at the surface. Transport winds will also be light but are Northeast. This still supports smoke collecting and pooling in drainages but with a gentle spread to the southwest and eventually offshore. Big Sur & Hwy 1 areas will see more impact during the day. Tassajara and Cachagua communities will see improvement.
Air Quality Tomorrow:  With continued light and terrain driven surface winds but with “less stable air” burning activity is expected to increase as is smoke production and its impacts. Smoke will have better lift but will lack a persistent sense of transport wind direction. Smoke is expected to collect and pool in Coastal Range during the day and exist at night via drainage flows.
