Air Quality Report Issue
Date: 08/30/2016
Soberanes Fire Prepared by: Randy Striplin and Robert Elleman
Forecast-33
Forecast conditions represent impacts
from smoke from the Soberanes Fire wildfire.
Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
|
||||
Fire: Moderate to active smoke production today. Yesterday’s
increased winds from the northwest caused elevated fire activity as well as
associated smoke production. Burnout operations on the southern containment
line may commence today if opportunities are favorable to firefighters. Current
perimeter is 93,245 acres, with 931 new acres. Current containment is
reported at 60%.
Air Quality
Today: Good
transport winds from the northwest today should help to clear out smoke for
most areas. Some smoke will drain down the Big Sur River Valley into Big Sur
this morning. The stronger winds will help dissipate smoke in Tassajara area,
but the current pattern favors degraded air quality in that portion of the
fire area.
Air Quality Tomorrow: Winds will weaken tonight and tomorrow
while shifting to being from the west and then southwest by tomorrow. The
pattern tomorrow should improve air quality in Tassajara. Big Sur should
expect the recurring pattern of smoky mornings and clear afternoons. Air
quality in Cachagua will degrade moderately as the winds turn and ventilation
decreases.

Disclaimer: Conditions
may change quickly, these projections are based on anticipated weather
and fire activity. Sensitive groups
including individuals with Asthma, lung or heart disease, children, older
adults, and pregnant women should take precautions to avoid exposure to
smoke. If you feel as though you are having health effects from smoke see
your doctor or health professional as needed. In some cases your eyes are your best
