Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Soberanes Fire wildfire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.

Fire:  As of 08/20- Current perimeter is 83,830 acres, with 2,434 new acres. Current containment is reported at 60%. Very light fire activity near Ventana Double Cone, and up the Hiding Canyon.  Air Quality:. The winds that would have provided some relief and pushed the smoke toward Santa Maria did not arrive as strong as predicted.  Limited periods of relief were followed by additional fire activity and settling.  The smoke interior pooled into the Carmel and Salinas Valley near Greenfield and Gonazales.  Air Quality Tomorrow:  Predicted winds for Sunday, August 21, 2016 have shifted to include a SW component that will reduce and hold the smoke in the Carmel and Salinas Valleys most of the day.  Late evening arrival of NW winds should provide some overnight relief.  There is potential for moderate periods of smoke impacts over the Carmel River School, Salinas, Gilroy, Santa Cruz, and Toro Park communities tomorrow.
