Friday, August 26, 2016 #Cedarfire Smoke Report

Cedar Fire Smoke Report
Issued:  8/26/2016
Prepared by:  Josh Hall and Wendy Wagner

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Cedar Fire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants and impacts from other fires are not reflected.
Fire:  Fire activity diminished slightly yesterday afternoon and evening with roughly a 50% decrease in acres burned compared to the previous day. The fire has grown to 27,586 acres and is 20% contained.  The majority of fire activity remains along the North and Western perimeter and is expected to be similar to yesterday.  Firefighters are continuing defensive firing along containment lines in order minimize fire growth.
Air Quality Today: As of this morning, smoke has drained downslope into Glennville and other low-lying areas below the active fire and expected to lift mid-morning.  For the afternoon and evening hours, localized unhealthy conditions are again expected in the Kern Valley, the Owens Valley and Ridgecrest where smoke is expected to settle into low-lying areas persisting into the morning.
Air Quality Tomorrow: Similar impacts as today, with potential for added impacts to the San Joaquin Valley.
