Tuesday, September 22, 2015 Rough Fire Smoke Report

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Rough Fire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.

Fire:  Burnout operations and interior fire spread increased fire size by approximately 679 acres for total of 142,629 acres with 70% containment.  Burnout operations are nearing completion and are expected to be complete today.  Fire activity is primarily creeping in understory and good progress has been made in mopping up in those areas.

Air Quality Today:  Warm dry conditions favorable to burning will continue today.  Interior burning and some burning operations will result in light to moderate emissions similar to yesterday.  Light to moderate impacts in the foothills to the west of the fire and unhealthy for sensitive to unhealthy impacts in the area immediately around the Kings Canyon.  Slight improvement late in the day compared to yesterday.

Air Quality Tomorrow:  Overall dispersion will improve tomorrow as a weak, very short duration disturbance makes its way into the area.  This improvement will probably be most noticeable in the foothills to the west of the fire with slight afternoon improvement in the areas immediately surrounding the Kings Canyon.
