Sunday, September 20, 2015 - Rough Fire Smoke Report and Forecast

Air Quality Report                                                                                               Issue Date: 09/20/2015

Rough Fire                                                                                                     Prepared by:  Tod Johnson
Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Rough Fire wildfire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Fire:  Burnout operations yesterday increased fire size by 108 acres bringing the current fire area total to 141,599acres.  Burnout operations will continue today to secure the West flank.  Fire perimeter containment is listed at 68%.
Air Quality Today:  Increased fire activity and perimeter burn out operations will disperse light to moderate smoke into areas directly South and South West of the fire as stable conditions hamper smoke dispersal. The foothill communities west of Kings Canyon will experience light to moderate smoke impacts as smoke moves West this afternoon  into Monday morning. Stable air conditions will limit relief from night time settling and pooling.  Better mixing to occur following inversion break around 1100. Some light impacts to Aspendell, Bishop and Big Pine anticipated in the afternoon.
Air Quality Tomorrow:  Smoke will linger through the morning hours beneath the inversion. Ground impacts to recover following 1100 inversion break and day time heating. Impacts continue to be light to moderate in the foothills west of the fire. Heavier impacts to persist for the areas proximal to King’s Canyon.
