Thursday, August 20, 2015 - Rough Fire Air Quality Report

Air Quality Report                                                                                               Issue Date: 08/20/2015

Rough Fire – Sierra National Forest                                  Prepared by: Rick Graw and Ariane Sarzotti

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Rough Fire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Fire:  The fire continues to be active in the southwest and potentially threatening the Hume Lake community, which has been evacuated.  In the northwest, the fire is burning toward the northwest toward Balch Camp.  Currently, the fire stands at 30,901 acres.  A flight to map the current perimeter is scheduled for this afternoon.  The complexity of the fire has resulted in a transition to a Type 1 team.  The team will be taking over today.
Air Quality Today:   A similar pattern as yesterday, heavy concentrations of smoke will remain in the western foothills and areas within the Kings River Canyon until midafternoon.   As smoke is lifted it will be transported to the east, degrading air quality in the Owens Valley.   This evening smoke will once again settle into the Kings River Valley, bringing smoke into the San Joaquin Valley overnight.
Air Quality Tomorrow:  A similar pattern to today is expected.
