In this image, dense smoke can be seen sitting in the steep valleys of Humblodt and Trinity Counties, while lighter areas of smoke drift offshore then south down the coast as well as into the Sacramento Valley.  This pattern should continue the next couple of days as light transport winds fail to clear the smoke from the area.
