Friday, August 14, 2015 - Rough Fire Air Quality Report

Air Quality Report                                                                                               Issue Date: 08/14/2015

Rough Fire – Sierra National Forest                                                                   Prepared by: Rick Graw

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Rough Fire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Fire:  Yesterday, the Rough Fire grew by 3400 acres, to a perimeter of approximately 13,400 acres.  A large pyrocumulus cloud was observed over the fire at 4 pm, when afternoon southwest winds aligned with the middle fork of the Kings River, which increased fire behavior, and allowed the fire to reach into heavier fuels.
Air Quality Today:  Air quality is diminishing over much of the forecast areas as high pressure gets established and decreasing dispersion.   Afternoon transport winds will be from the southwest transporting smoke towards the Owens Valley. Smoke concentrations tonight will be heavier than last night in the communities east of the fire.
Air Quality Tomorrow:  Poorer dispersion conditions caused by the increasing influence of the high pressure system will result in poorer air quality over much of the area.
