Thursday, September 11, 2014 Klamath NF 24- hr Smoke Summary

Yesterday Winds pushed smoke to the southwest much of the day. Smoke pooled into the Klamath River valley in the late morning and afternoon hours and remained in high concentrations for several hours. Smoke entered the Scott and Shasta Valleys in the late afternoon.
Today A change in wind directions is forecast for today and smoke is going to be pushed to the north with low dispersion.  Smoke will pool into valleys and be highest in the Klamath River valley with reduced visibility on Hwy 96. Scott and Shasta Valley will likely see a reduction in air quality today. Communities in the lower Klamath River, Trinity, and Salmon drainage should start to see an improvement in air quality.
Tomorrow Conditions are forecast to be similar to yesterday as smoke will be pushed north again. Communities southwest of the fires should see more improvement.  Smoke concentrations are likely to remain high in the Klamath River drainage north of the fires. Visibility on Hwy 96 may be reduced for much of the day with some reduction on Hwy 3 and I-5.
