Monday September 8, 2014 Klamath NF Smoke Impact Summary

Yesterday Winds pushed smoke to the northwest much of the day. Smoke pooled into valleys during the afternoon hours and remained in high concentrations for several hours. Smoke entered the Scott and Shasta Valleys in the late afternoon when the wind shifted.
Today Smoke dispersion will be limited due to low winds.  Smoke will pool into valleys and be highest in the Scott Valley and lower Klamath River drainage if the winds are strong enough to push the smoke south.  Visibility on Hwy 96, 3, and I-5 (in the Shasta Valley) may be reduced for much of the day. Shasta Valley will likely see a reduction in air quality today.  Smoke may enter the Sacramento Valley by late afternoon.
Tomorrow Smoke will be pushed southeast for the majority of the day. Smoke concentrations are likely to remain high in the Scott Valley.  Visibility on Hwy 3 is likely to be impacted.  Additional smoke from Oregon fires may enter the Shasta Valley during the afternoon hours.
