Saturday, August 2, 2014 - French Fire smoke

In case you were wondering where all the smoke came from in central California this morning, it was from the French wildfire.  Check out this satellite imagery of the French Fire plume from yesterday, 8/1. At least 4000+ acres  have been consumed, generating over 2000 tons of smoke on that fire since then.


Smoke concentrations have worsened this morning as a result.  Below is another chart showing todays conditions as of 1:00 PM this afternoon.


Degraded air quality may remain in place over the next 24 hrs due to high clouds from moisture moving in from our south are forecast to move north over the area, preventing afternoon winds from clearing the smoke out.  Below is a satellite image showing the moisture and high clouds on their way here (click here for the current satellite loop from NOAA)
