Thursday September 3, 2015 - Shasta-Trinity/Six Rivers NF Morning Smoke/Air Quality Report

Thursday September 3, 2015
Shasta-Trinity & Six Rivers Fire Complexes                                  Mike Broughton and Greg Hosburg

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Smoke Synopsis:    0830 Morning Version
The short synopsis today: Very little smoke impacts through Sunday!  Fire activity at all locations is termed “minimal with creeping and smoldering” except at the River Complex, where moderate activity is still occurring, primarily in Devil’s Canyon.  Smoke generated by the fires will affect only local areas, with some transport possible into the northern portion of the Sacramento Valley and possibly the Trinity Lake area.

Holiday Weekend Outlook:  Good air quality is expected in most locations through Sunday. There is a possibility of some rain showers Friday afternoon into Saturday morning, mostly in the north.  Late Sunday into Labor Day, winds could shift offshore bringing warmer, drier conditions over the fire complexes, possibly increasing smoke production later in the week, primarily from unburned areas within the fire perimeters.

Thursday, September 3, 2015 - Rough Fire Air Quality Report

Air Quality Report                                                                                                          Issue Date: 09/03/2015
Rough Fire                                                                                                                        Prepared by:  Josh Hall

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Rough Fire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Fire:  Fire was less active again yesterday as crews continued to work on containment lines in the Converse Basin and in the South Fork of the Kings River, north of Buck Rock. The fire is now 81,549 acres and is 25% contained.
Air Quality Today: Heavy concentrations of smoke are expected near the fire today.  Smoke will be slow to lift and transport will primarily terrain and diurnally driven.  Smoke that does rise out of Kings Canyon, will be slowly transported to the north, with potential impacts in the Owens Valley.  Residual smoke that has not cleared the area, will add to impacts from new smoke being produced.  Unhealthy to Very Unhealthy conditions are expected in communities near the fire.
Air Quality Tomorrow: Similar conditions are expected tomorrow.
