Monday, August 24, 2015 - California Smoke Streams into Oregon

Smoke from the Gasquet, River, and Mad River Fire Complexes streams northward into Oregon.

Monday, August 24, 2015 - Here's why SCALE is important...

In the image below, concentrations at Hayfork can be seen peaking at 10 am.  If scale is not considered, it may look as though air quality was pretty bad in Hayfork this morning, then improved throughout the afternoon.

Put into context of over one week, however, this is what the concentration graph looks like:

Note:  Concentrations in the above graphs are displayed in milligrams per cubic meter averaged over one hour.
Always check the scale!

Monday, August 24, 2015 - North Coast Unified AQMD Smoke PSA & Unhealthy Advisory

The North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District had issued a Public Service Announcement regarding smoke from current wildfires dated August 24, 2015. We have also issued an Unhealthy Advisory for areas in Humboldt and Trinity County. See the district's website for additional information.

Monday, August 24, 2015 - Rough Fire Air Quality Report

Air Quality Report                                                                                               Issue Date: 08/24/2015

Rough Fire – Sierra National Forest                                 Prepared by: Ariane Sarzotti and Jamie Tripp

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Rough Fire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Fire: On the southern zone, Fire continues to spread towards the Windy Gulch area which includes Lockwood Grove and Evans Grove. A critical line is near completion from Hwy 180 to the Kings River.  On the northern zone of the fire, blacklining was conducted to fortify the line from Bailey Bridge to Balch Camp on Balch Camp Rd.  Hand and aerial firing is anticipated to continue over the next several days to keep the fire backing to the north fork of the King’s River. The fire is now 49,440 acres and 17% contained.
Air Quality Today:   With slight changes in weather patterns, we will see heavy concentrations of smoke in the western foothills and areas within the Kings River Canyon until mid-afternoon.  Owens Valley will see air quality degrading as smoke is lifted and transported to the northeast late afternoon to midnight.  This evening smoke will once again settle into the Kings River Valley, bringing smoke into the western foothills and the San Joaquin Valley overnight.
Air Quality Tomorrow:  A similar pattern to today is expected.

Monday Aug.24, 2015 - Shasta-Trininty/Six Rivers Smoke/Air Quality Report

Monday August 24, 2015
Shasta-Trinity & Six Rivers Complexes                                 Mike Broughton and Greg Hosburg

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Smoke Synopsis:    0945 AM Final
With the exception of a few hours here and there, smoke generally cleared out of many of the deep Trinity Valley locations on Sunday.  A general transport flow from the south combined with a coastal onshore push from the west will send smoke up into Siskiyou County and southern Oregon, but slightly more unstable conditions today and Tuesday may allow for clearing conditions during the afternoon.  Coastal areas will experience the typical effects of a deep marine layer.

The most active fires include the Lassic Fire (Mad River Complex), the Denny and French Creek areas of the River Complex, and the Pattison Fire (South Complex).
