Sunday September 4, 2016 - #Soberanesfire Smoke Report

Air Quality Report                                                                                              Issue Date: 09/04/2016
Soberanes Fire  Forecast-38                                                                       Prepared by:  Randy Striplin

Forecast conditions represent impacts from smoke from the Soberanes Fire wildfire.  Contributions from ozone and other pollutants are not reflected.
Fire:  Moderate to high smoke production today on the southeastern front of the fire. Burnout operations are unlikely today due to strong winds. Current perimeter is 98,420 acres, with 2,704 new acres of fire growth. Current containment is reported at 60%.
Air Quality Today: Strong northwest ridgetop winds overnight will slowly subside throughout the day but will remain at least moderately fast. Transport winds will also be from the northwest. Smoke will be transported down the coast towards points south. Smoke drainage down the Big Sur River Valley into Big Sur this morning will be light. The northwest winds will take smoke away from Tassajara, but Tassajara is likely to be impacted by smoke due to its proximity to the fire.
Air Quality Tomorrow:  Northwest winds will weaken and turn more northerly. Smoke will remain closer to the fire, which could degrade air quality at Tassajara and Big Sur. Most of the smoke will go out over the coast again, and it may affect air quality in diffuse amounts at points south along the coast.
